Winemakers Invited To Conference
July 21, 2006 - South Burnett wine industry operators have been invited to attend the 2006 Queensland Wine Business Conference which will be held in Toowoomba next week.

The conference will be held next Tuesday and Wednesday at the Cathedral Centre, 123 Neil Street, Toowoomba. Topics to be covered include sales and marketing advice, environmental and technical issues and developing a wine tourism destination.

Keynote speakers will include Ian Hollick (Hollick Wines, Coonawarra), Robin Shaw (Winemakers' Federation of Australia) and Shane O'Reilly (O'Reilly's Canungra Valley Vineyards).

July 19, 2006 - The State Government has set up a small business hotline to provide a single government entry point for small business.

Small Business Minister Chris Cummins said the hotline would provide support and assistance information, including grants available to business from Queensland and Commonwealth Government agencies.

The hotline phone number is 1300-363-711 and it is manned during business hours. Information is also available on the Smart Small Business website
Change After Half A Century
July 18, 2006 - Bruce and Cecily Saunders, from Auckland, this week took over Nixon's Butchery at 71 Lamb Street, Murgon.

They have purchased the business from the Nixon family who have been serving the Murgon district for more than 50 years. Graham, Gordon and Fay Nixon are now looking forward to enjoying their retirement.

The Saunders plan to keep the familiar business name and the shop will be open from 8am-5pm weekdays and 8am-noon on Saturdays.
Workshop On Great Bunya Drive
July 17, 2006 - Tourism Queensland, in conjunction with the Fraser Coast South Burnett Regional Tourism Board, will be holding a free workshop in Nanango next week to help local tourism businesses make the most out of the Great Bunya Drive signposted route.

Guest presenter will be Mark Olsen, from Tourism Queensland, who will be discussing drive tourism and marketing.

July 11, 2006 - KMM Concrete Pty Ltd is the new name for Kingaroy Mini Mix, located at 9 First Avenue, Kingaroy.

David and Janelle Collin launched the business seven years ago and now operate a fleet of nine concrete trucks. They also offer sand, soil and gravel supplies and service the whole South Burnett.

Updated Tourism
Map Now Available
July 10, 2006 - Copies of the new South Burnett Tourist Map (right) are now available at Visitor Information Centres in the South Burnett.

The map, a project of the South Burnett Tourism Association and the South Burnett Local Government Association, has been updated and contains information about major annual events, local market dates and a snapshot of local shires.

It will also be distributed to visitors by tourism operators throughout the region.
Bowls Club Launches Website
July 7, 2006 - Kingaroy Bowls Club, located at 141 Youngman Street, Kingaroy, has unveiled its new website

The club is open daily from noon-7:30pm and holds two major carnivals every year (in July and November). Spokesman Ron Walsh said there were also competition and social events for men and women. Children are also most welcome and the club caters for bus trips.

July 5, 2006 - While not exactly business news, SBBiz would like to congratulate the team of 18 cyclists from Kingaroy State High School who rolled into O'Neill Square, Kingaroy (just outside our office) yesterday afternoon after their mammoth 1400km cycle trek.

The riders, led by teacher Eddie Groom, raised money for cancer charity Canteen along the way as well as being ambassadors for the South Burnett (see Inverell Times).

They were greeted on their return by Kingaroy Deputy Mayor Max Lehmann and school principal David Ballin (left) as well as by a throng of onlookers and parents.

Free Truck Training For Farmers
July 4, 2006 - Toowoomba-based not-for-profit organisation Ozcare has organised a free two-week course at the Kingaroy TAFE College for farmers aged 40+ to update their transport industry skills.

The course will cover dangerous goods, cargo restraints, fatigue management, occupational health and safety and will enable participants to upgrade their driving licences to light/medium/heavy rigid vehicle and gain a forklift licence.

The two-week course will be held from Monday July 31 to Friday August 11.

July 3, 2006 - Kingaroy and Nanango community radio station K-FM is the latest South Burnett business to take advantage of a free poster webpage on Southburnett.biz.

Bernadette and Barry Dixon operate the station from their studio at 26 King Street, Kingaroy. They also operate stations at Gatton, Laidley and Roma.

Funding Boost For
2006 Peanut Festival
June 30, 2006 - The Queensland Events Regional Development Program has announced that the Kingaroy Peanut Festival - a project of the Kingaroy Chamber if Commerce and Industry - has been successful in its application for funding for 2006!

The KCCI is extremely grateful for the on-going support of Queensland Events over the past few years. Their support - and the assistance of the Peanut Company of Australia and other loyal sponsors - is the main reason why the Peanut Festival has been able to go ahead in leaps and bounds.
