B&B Opens At Sheep Dairy
August 22, 2005 - Runnymede Country Cottage, Nanango's latest B&B, has opened alongside Garry and Jean Monaghan's Runnymede Sheep Dairy.

The B&B is located on the corner of Scotts Lane and Brazier Road. Guests have the opportunity to experience farm life and try their hand at sheep milking.

August 19, 2005 - Kingaroy Orchids at 26 Smiths Road, Kingaroy, is the latest South Burnett business to take up a poster page on Southburnett.biz.

Kingaroy Orchids is run by Judy Munro and is open from July 1 to September 30 every year (and on weekends to October 31).

New Owners For Maidenwell Store
August 18, 2005 - After almost 11 years of very long hours Geoff and Dennise Kennedy are handing over the reins of the Maidenwell Trading Post to new owners.

The couple has been very active in the Maidenwell Eco-Tourism Association over the years and will be missed by the local community. They are now looking forward to new ventures.

New owner Bob Stewart will take over on Monday.

Workshop To Identify Agricultural Opportunities
August 12, 2005 - A workshop to identify opportunities to improve the viability of agriculture in the Wide Bay Burnett region will be held on Thursday August 25 at the Brian Pastures Research Station, Gayndah.

The workshop will assist members of the WBB Ministerial Regional Community Forum to identify regional initiatives that could help to address trends and challenges facing agriculture and industry. Agforce SE Qld chairman Peter McIntosh will also be in attendance.

August 10, 2005 - Leeann McGovern recently opened a new pet-grooming business in Nanango and already has a loyal clientele.

The Petzarama salon is located at 33 Lowry Road and offers professional clips as well as hydrobaths (with blowdrying) and dog obedience lessons.

Leeann qualified for her certificates in Brisbane before moving to Nanango. Opening her own business was a big decision which involved six months of planning before Petzarama finally opened last Monday. Bookings can be made on (07) 4163-1109.

August 9, 2005 - BGA Agriservices has expanded its presence in Murgon with the opening of a Thrifty-Link Hardware outlet at its premises at 12 Macalister Street.

BGA Agriservices also operates the Thrifty-Link store in Youngman Street, Kingaroy.

August 5, 2005 - Kingaroy artist and photographer Garry Eyre, (right), has purchased the former Rose Cottage complex opposite Kingaroy Airport and is in the process of turning it into an art gallery, cafe and artists studio.

The Artists' Cottage and Village, located at 120 Geritz Road, will open on Peanut Festival day (September 10) and will be the only private art gallery in Kingaroy Shire. Artworks will be displayed in the historic Taabinga Village buildings.

Drought Support
August 4, 2005 - Seminars for producers and small businesses will be held in Kingaroy on August 22 and Murgon on August 25 to explain recent changes to drought assistance.

Small business owners in a drought-declared Exceptional Circumstances area can now apply for interest subsidies up to $10,000 per year on new and existing loans. Criteria can be downloaded here (98kb PDF). The level of off-farm assets that producers are able to possess has also been increased.

July 29, 2005 - We're proud to announce that Lynnelle Richardson (better known as the KCCI's project officer) has won the $10,000 Wide Bay Burnett Regional Organisation of Councils / APN Newspapers competition to find a regional name and a regional logo for the Wide Bay-Burnett region.

Lynnelle's logo (above) and the concept "Country Coast" well describes the huge area that stretches from Fraser Island to 300km or more inland.

July 28, 2005 - The Kingaroy Chamber of Commerce and Industry is seeking expressions of interest from people who would like to take part in a "team training" workshop in Kingaroy in late August.

The all-day course will be presented by Chris Murphy, former CEO of the Victims of Crime Association and the current director of a national charity.
